The first step toward having a thorough home inspection is to choose the right home inspector. But, even the most detailed home inspector can be stopped from performing a complete inspection. This is where the homeowner comes in. Let’s look at some things a homeowner should do to get ready for inspection day.
A home inspector must be able to gain clear access to all areas of the home, including the basement, attic, and crawlspaces. If these areas are blocked for any reason, the home inspector will not be able to inspect them. Before inspection day, it is a good idea to make sure there is a clear pathway to these spaces. You should also leave doors and gates unlocked while the inspector is there.
Even small items that are not in good working order will be noted as defective on the home inspection report. To avoid this, take some time to test all Co2 and smoke detectors in your home and garage. Make sure there are no light bulbs that need replacing.

Take care of any small repair and maintenance tasks that need doing, before inspection day. Include yard work like trimming back trees and foliage. This will make the home inspector’s job a lot easier.
Believe it or not, pets are one of the common reasons why a home inspector cannot perform a thorough inspection. On the day of the inspection, keep pets in a secured area, or better still, arrange for them to be away from the property.
